About the Artist
Lois Johnson grew up in a remote village in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. She spent most of her work life researching local cultures and traditions of people in North and South America and Europe. Her inspirations in her paintings stem from her ethnographic studies as well as from other artists. She wishes to convey these experiences in her art that emphasize the ideals of harmony and balance without uniformity. She works primarily with oil and acrylic media.
In addition to painting, Lois enjoys classes at the North Suburban YMCA, gardening, kayaking, traveling, and visiting with family and friends. She currently lives in Glenview with her husband Nicolas.
