Sponsored by Illinois Bone and Joint Institute and in collaboration with the Northbrook Fire Department, our program aims to reduce fall risk through education and interactive sessions significantly.


This hour-long program will educate residents and teach practical, everyday exercises that can be done at home to build strength, flexibility, and better balance to prevent falls.

Senior Balance

Participants will receive the knowledge of our three experts in this hour-long interactive program which will include:


• The importance of preventing falls and improving balance.
• Critical fall statistics.
• Information about what’s involved in balance.
• Education regarding why falls happen.
• Suggestions about how to mitigate fall risk.
• Instruction on how to self-assess, and what to do after a fall.
• The opportunity to participate in exercises to build strength, increase flexibility and improve balance to prevent falls.
• Take-home exercises to practice regularly.
• A “To Do” list of fall prevention suggestions.
• Q & A with the presenter(s)

Ted is a Northbrook firefighter/paramedic and has a vast knowledge on fall risk, the statistics of how detrimental falls can be and how to handle a fall.

Dr. Benck is a board-certified rheumatologist who specializes in the treatment of autoimmune and musculoskeletal disorders. Dr. Benck practices shared decision-making with his patients. His goal for each patient is to control disease activity, improve functionality and comfort, and improve quality of life.
