  • Youth Fitness - Kids Balancing on a Yoga Block

    Youth Fitness

    Obesity is a rising epidemic in the U.S. Currently, over one third of the youth population is struggling with being overweight or obese. At the Y we are combatting this growing problem with classes that are designed to make fitness fun. In Fit Happens classes, kids and teens learn about becoming and staying active in a positive and fun atmosphere. Participant will be encouraged to develop healthy habits that they can carry with them throughout their lives.

     

    FIT FOR LIFE

    8-11 years old

    Emcompasses all aspects of being healthy. Youth will focus on weightlifting, flexibility, and cardio endurance. You can also include box jumps, battle rope, rowing, and more.

    FIT FOR LIFE: STRENGTH TRAINING BASICS

    12-15 years old

    Emcompasses all aspects of proper weightlifting

    KIDS YOGA

    6-10 years old

    To relax, energize, focus, balance, stretch and strengthen your body. Play win-win games ad act out stories with a weekly theme.

    Family Fitness

    Working on fitness as a family is a great way to set a positive example and stay motivated. Participation in YMCA fitness programs offer opportunities for friendship and community, a sense of well-being, self-confidence and improved mental abilities and cognition.     Today's Active Adults are more health conscious than ever before. At the YMCA we've made the health and fitness of our seniors a top priority by providing programs for the spirit, mind and body. Through group exercise classes and aquatic programs that concentrate on mobility and flexibility, dance classes, and volunteer activities, the YMCA is bringing Active Adults together for camaraderie, fellowship and fun!

    Balance diminishes as we get older, but you CAN improve your balance at any age with strength gains, posture improvement, flexibility training, and balance practice. If you are looking to improve your balance this is the class for you.

    PIIT takes the treadmill, eliptical, bike, and other fitness machines to the next level! Make your workouts work for you! PIIT provides you with personalized interval training to accommodate your body. All Levels welcome.

    Increase your balance, stability, and over all strength. +Heart has an added cardiovascular component.

    Balance for Walking (AOA*):

    Improve balance, coordination, walk in all directions, and meet new people who also enjoy walking! Come anytime during the 55 minutes

    Basic Cardio Plus (AOA)

    Utilizes low impact aerobics in this joint friendly class geared for a low to moderate intensity level. The class will include 35-40 minutes of cardiovascular movement followed by strengthening and stretching exercises. Boot Camp Interval: Boot camp is a combination of strength, cardio, muscle endurance, flexibility, core, and functional movement patterns. You get EVERYTHING you need!

    Les Mills BodyPump

    BODYPUMP™ is for anyone looking to get lean, toned and fit – fast. Using light to moderate weights with lots of repetition, BODYPUMP gives you a total body workout. Instructors will coach you through the scientifically proven moves and techniques pumping out encouragement, motivation and great music – helping you achieve much more than on your own! You’ll leave the class feeling challenged and motivated, ready to come back for more.

    Cardio Splash (AOA*)

    A good high-level aerobic workout in the water without the joint-jarring and muscle-pounding effects of land exercises.

    Cycle

    Unique ride each time designed for people of all fitness levels looking for a high-energy, but challenging non-impact workout.

    Dance Fusion

    A high-intensity cardio dance class that combines various dance styles with sports drills to create a cardio filled class. All levels welcome!

    F.I.T. (Functional Intense Training)

    Challenge yourself beyond traditional training with this high intensity, functional workout. Programming will be the same for all participants, and workload can be modified or scaled in intensity and weight.

    Fitness Xtreme

    Combination of hard-core cardio plus total muscular strength, agility, and power to get you stronger!

    Functional Fitness

    Light to moderate class that works on slowly improving overall flexibility, balance, cardio endurance and muscle tone. Progressive flexibility allows for full range of motion which enhances daily living. Activities are low impact.

    Les Mills Grit

    LES MILLS GRIT™ is a 30-minute high-intensity interval training (HIIT) workout. The HIIT training effect means you burn calories for hours after the workout, increase aerobic fitness, unleash fast-twitch muscle fibers and grow lean muscle tissue, burning fat.

    HIIT Cardio

    This High Intensity Interval Training class will alternate between very intense bouts of exercise and low intensity exercise.

    Interval Conditioning

    Interval training using intense and athletic exercises alternated with full body muscular toning.

    Metabolic Total Body

    This metabolic training workout will touch all muscle groups while also getting cardio benefits through elevated heart rate and compound movement

    Muscle Definition

    Multi-level resistance training class using any combination of weights, balls, bands to strengthen the entire body.

    Pilates Barre

    A Pilates inspired class using principles of Pilates, core conditioning, dance and the science of Physical Therapy to create a structurally balanced and muscularly defined body.

    Cardiovascular endurance class featuring advanced choreographed stepping patterns.

    A combination of advanced choreographed stepping patterns with strength training exercises.

    Non-aerobic, low impact class that will improve muscular strength, endurance, flexibility and balance.

    Step Interval

    Maximize your workout with this Traditional step/Interval combo for a complete head to toe workout.

    TBC (Total Body Conditioning)

    Combines aerobic conditioning, strength and endurance exercises that improve all muscles of the body.

    Total Body Strength

    This class uses various resistance-training techniques (e.g. dumbbells, stability balls, bands) to improve muscular strength and endurance and develop muscle definition and elevate the body's metabolism by increasing lean muscle mass.

    TRX Circuit

    With this challenging, full body workout you will build strength, stamina, and increase total body mobility and stability. The TRX system challenges your stabilizers and your major muscle groups. No prior experience necessary!

    Turbokick

    Get hooked on the Turbo high! With cardio kickboxing and body-sculpting dance moves choreographed to the hottest music mixes, you'll get lean and toned—and have a blast doing it! It's high intensity, fast-paced, and totally addicting!

    WERQ

    WERQ® is the fiercely fun dance fitness workout class based on pop, rock, and hip-hop music taught by Certified Fitness Professionals. The signature WERQ® warm-up previews the dance steps used in class and the signature WERQ™ cool-down includes balance and yoga inspired poses. Are you ready to WERQ®?

    Zumba

    Combines Latin rhythms into cardiovascular dance exercise to create a routine that is fun and easy to follow.

It can only be taught by certified Iyengar teachers, who must complete years of study and are rigorously tested on their practice and teaching skills.

    Cycle Camp

    Cycle camp combines a 1/2 hour high energy ride, 1/2 hour strength training, and 1/2 hour of abs/core and stretching. Strength training will focus on proper form and technique using different training modalities such as: TRX® Suspension training, plate loaded and fixed equipment, and body weight exercises.

    Cross Training for Runners

    There are many benefits of cross training for runners during the winter months. In this small group, runners will work on balancing muscle groups not typically used during running, improving cardiovascular endurance, and reducing the risk of injury.

    Off-Season Tri Training - Land

    Running 101: The Building Blocks

    Have you always dreamed of becoming a runner? In this small group, you will be given the guidance and motivation to begin running and keep running. You will be given the building blocks of proper running form to help build speed and strength.
