Who We Are
Who We Are. What We Do.

The North Suburban YMCA is a volunteer-led, non-profit community organization serving 12 communities of the North Shore. These communities include Buffalo Grove, Deerfield, Glencoe, Glenview, Highland Park, Highwood, Lincolnshire, Northbrook, Northfield, Riverwoods, Winnetka and Wheeling. As a human service organization we hold ourselves to these three standards:
- All programs must relate to our Judeo-Christian mission of
human development. - All income must go back into the YMCA to perpetuate our
charitable purpose. - YMCA programs must be affordable to the community the YMCA serves.
Our Mission
The North Suburban YMCA promotes values that build strong families and the health of each individual’s spirit, mind and body in an inclusive, welcoming environment.
Health and Well Being for All
The YMCA has been dedicated to holistic health and development throughout our long and storied 156-year history. That commitment has taken on new urgency amidst our country’s severe health crisis, a crisis brought about by a myriad of factors. The most evident— physical inactivity and unhealthy eating—are within our power to influence. Solutions to this crisis are individual and systemic—from making better choices in our daily lives to encountering healthier options in our schools, workplaces and communities, from physical education in schools to walkways and parks in housing developments. The YMCA is in a strong position to influence change in individuals and in communities.
YMCAs across the country are joining, and in many cases, leading these efforts through YMCA Activate America®, the YMCA’s comprehensive approach to directly addressing our nation’s escalating health threats. By transforming how we work both inside and outside our walls, YMCAs aim to engage all those who seek well-being in spirit, mind and body. Whether you’re someone who plays basketball twice a week, part of a walking group or coming through our doors for the first time looking for help in making some life changes, the YMCA can provide the support and activities appropriate to help you set and reach your goals. If you are already involved with the YMCA, and are looking for something more, your YMCA staff is prepared to listen and learn about your wants, needs and interests and to support the changes you want to make. And if there’s someone in your life who could use help getting started toward a healthier future, suggest that he or she talk with a staff member or volunteer at the Y, where health and well-being for all is central to our mission.
