PROGRAMS FOR CHILDREN AND ADULTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS
H.A.W.K.S. classes offer a variety of accommodations for participants as needed, including reduced class size,
extra staff, peer mentors, increased structure and a slower pace. STUDENTS NEED TO BE ABLE TO PARTICIPATE
IN CLASSROOM ACTIVITIES AND FUNCTION IN A 1:3 AIDE TO STUDENT ENVIRONMENT. The NSYMCA is
dedicated to providing all of our children quality extracurricular activities to enrich their lives!
Improve gross motor skills and coordination while learning
the basics of jazz dance and creative movement.
Have fun while building strength, flexibility and increasing concentration.
H.A.W.K.S. WORK-OUT BUDDY
Free for members! Adults with special needs are paired up with a volunteer work-out buddy.
HEALTHY COOKING 101
For this program, we will prepare a healthy lunch. The participants will follow recipes, prepare the food,
and enjoy a healthy meal together. The program will introduce healthy food options,
build simple cooking skills, and encourage social interaction.
This fitness class for students with Autism or other Special Needs will teach the
EC's Five Components of Fitness and help them on their journey to maintain
a physically active lifestyle.
SPECIAL NEEDS ART
COME EXPLORE THE WORLD OF ART! Participants will pull strands of cotton apart to
make penguins or birds on a paper plate. All projects will stimulate fine motor skills along
with tactile and sensory experiences.
